How It Works
ZebbeBa Project develops one-off sim racing projects — primarily steering wheels, button boxes and displays. A backer enables a project by covering the real material and hardware costs. I contribute the research, design, engineering and build work.
One project at a time
ZebbeBa Project is intentionally small. A typical development can take around 30 weeks from the first idea to a finished piece.
Open-book development
Material and hardware costs are tracked openly throughout the project. Changes and optional upgrades are discussed before they are added.
Sunday Fun Day
Each week, progress can be shared with the backer together with questions, design choices and optional improvements.
Q&A
A few of the things a potential backer will probably want to understand before deciding to take part in a project.
What does it mean to back a project?
You make the physical project possible by covering the direct costs of materials, hardware, purchased components, contractors and shipping. I contribute the research, design, engineering, development and build time.
Do you make a profit on the project?
The intention is not to add a commercial margin to the project. Material and hardware costs are tracked openly so the backer can follow where the money is being spent.
How do I become a backer?
There is no account or sign-up process. If you are interested in backing a project, simply get in touch through the contact form on the website or via Instagram.
We will then talk through the project, the estimated cost and what you would like from the build. If we both decide to move forward, we will sign a Collaboration Agreement outlining the project and our respective commitments.
As part of that agreement, we will both verify our identities, so that each side knows who they are entering the collaboration with. This may include verification using a valid photo ID before the project begins.
Can ZebbeBa Project decline me as a backer?
Yes. Becoming a backer is not automatic.
Every project requires a significant investment of my own time, effort and, in many cases, my own money. These projects can also run for many months, which means a good and respectful collaboration is important to me.
For that reason, I choose my backers carefully and reserve the right to decline a collaboration before a project begins, without being required to take on every person who expresses interest.
The goal is not simply to find someone willing to fund a build, but to find people I feel comfortable working with throughout the entire project.
Can I buy the CAD files or a DIY version and build it myself?
No. The CAD files, PCB files and other design material developed as part of ZebbeBa Project are not for sale or distributed as DIY packages.
The focus of ZebbeBa Project is on designing and building the finished projects themselves rather than selling the underlying design files.
Is there an upfront cost?
Yes. A 10% commitment fee is paid upfront, based on the higher end of the estimated project cost. Each project is given an estimated cost range before you commit, based on where I expect the final material and production costs to land.
The commitment fee secures your place as a backer and allows me to start purchasing parts and materials for the project.
What is included in the estimated project cost?
The estimated project cost covers the parts, materials and manufacturing needed to complete the build. This may include components, PCBs, machining, 3D printing, finishing, hardware and other project-specific expenses.
The estimate is there to give a realistic picture of what I believe the finished project will cost while maintaining the quality standard I want to achieve.
Shipping is not included in the project estimate and is added separately at the end.
What happens if the final cost is higher or lower than the estimate?
Each project starts with an estimated cost range. Throughout the build, there will be an ongoing dialogue about parts, materials and optional choices, so you should always have a good idea of where the final cost is heading.
If the project looks likely to become significantly more expensive than originally estimated, I will stop and discuss the options with you before committing to the additional cost. If the project ends up costing less, you only pay the actual final cost.
How do I pay?
Payments are made through PayPal.
The 10% commitment fee is paid when we agree to start the project. The remaining balance, together with shipping costs, is paid shortly before the completed project is shipped.
The final amount will always be confirmed with you before payment is requested.
When do I pay the remaining balance?
The remaining balance is paid shortly before shipping, once the project is completed, tested and ready to be handed over.
Before the final payment, I will confirm the final project cost with you so there are no surprises.
Once the remaining balance and shipping cost have been received, the project will be prepared for shipment.
How long does a project take?
A typical project takes around 20–30 weeks, but the exact timeline depends on the complexity of the build, availability of parts, manufacturing lead times, testing and how much development is required.
These are small, hands-on development projects rather than products built from an existing production line, so some parts of the process can be difficult to predict in advance.
I will keep you updated throughout the project, and if anything significantly affects the expected timeline, we will discuss it as soon as possible.
How will I know how the project is progressing?
You will receive regular updates throughout the project, including progress on design, manufacturing, assembly, testing and any important decisions that need to be made along the way.
The intention is to keep communication structured and predictable, while still allowing some flexibility depending on the stage of the project. Some weeks may naturally involve more progress than others.
If you prefer more or less frequent communication, that can also be agreed at the start of the project.
Can I request changes or custom options?
Yes. Customisation is part of the collaboration, and we can discuss changes to things such as grips, buttons, electronics, finishes, paddles or other details throughout the project.
That said, the estimated cost range is also there to reflect the standard I want each project to reach. My goal is to build something I am genuinely proud to hand over, using parts and materials that meet the level of quality I believe the project deserves.
If a requested change would compromise that standard, or significantly affect the cost, complexity or timeline, we will discuss the alternatives together before moving forward.
How many backers can join one project?
Usually one or two backers.
ZebbeBa Project is deliberately kept small, and each build requires a significant amount of hands-on work, development and testing. Limiting the number of backers helps me maintain the level of quality and attention I want each project to receive.
The exact number of available places will be shown for each project.
Can several projects be built at the same time?
Only a very limited number. ZebbeBa Project is deliberately small and works through a visible queue rather than trying to operate like a production business.
Can I join a project that has already started?
Possibly. If a project is still in the research or CAD/design stage, feel free to get in touch and ask.
Whether another backer can join will depend on how far the project has progressed and whether adding another build can still be done without disrupting the development, cost or timeline.
Once manufacturing or assembly is well underway, it may be too late to join that particular project.
What happens if I decide to leave a project?
You are free to leave a project before it is completed. If you do, you will be responsible for the actual costs already committed specifically to your build. Your 10% commitment fee will count toward those costs.
Where possible, I will cancel orders or reuse parts to avoid unnecessary costs. Any parts that you ultimately pay for are yours, and I will send them to you.
No development time will be charged.
What happens if ZebbeBa Project has to cancel a project?
If I have to cancel a project before it is completed, your 10% commitment fee will be refunded in full.
Because the remaining project cost is not paid until shortly before shipping, there should normally be no other amount for you to recover.
This is different from a backer choosing to leave a project, where costs already committed specifically to that build may still need to be covered.
Does the wheel come ready to use?
Yes. The goal is always to deliver the project fully assembled, tested and working as agreed.
Depending on the project, some software, drivers or configuration may still be required on your computer. I will provide the necessary installation guidance and can also help you through the setup in a call or a remote installation session.
Any specific requirements, such as wheelbase adapters, quick-release hardware or simulator compatibility, will be agreed as part of the project before the build is completed.
Is there a warranty?
Yes. Every completed project comes with a two-year repair warranty. If something fails because of the build or workmanship, send it back to me and I will repair it at no cost for the repair itself.
Shipping costs associated with sending the project to and from me are covered by the backer.
Normal wear, accidental damage or modifications made after delivery are not covered by the warranty, but I will always try to help where I can.
Are replacement parts available if something breaks later?
Absolutely. If something breaks, I will make sure you can get the parts needed to repair it.
Replacement parts will be provided at cost, together with any applicable shipping costs. Where possible, the same component will be supplied. If a part is no longer available, we will find a suitable replacement or, for custom parts, reproduce it where reasonably possible.
The goal is that your project should remain repairable and usable for many years after it has been completed.
Where do you ship from?
All completed projects are shipped with DHL from Sweden, Europe.
Shipping costs are covered by the backer and will depend on the destination, package size and weight. For deliveries outside the EU, any customs duties, import taxes or other local fees are also the responsibility of the recipient.
I will always make sure the project is carefully packed and provide tracking information once it has been shipped.
Can I suggest a new project?
Absolutely. If there is a particular steering wheel, display or motorsport project you would like to see recreated, you are welcome to get in touch and suggest it.
Whether a project moves forward will depend on things such as feasibility, available reference material, complexity, the current queue and, importantly, whether it is a project I feel genuinely excited to build.
If it looks like a good fit, we can discuss the idea, expected cost and what would be involved before deciding whether to add it to the project list.
